The School of Light offers a fun and exciting range of photography classes, workshops and tutorials for students from 6th to 12th grade at our state of the art studio and darkroom in the resurgent heart of downtown Los Angeles.

Individual, and insightful instruction from British photographer Andrew Hall enables students to build their skills, learn new techniques and express themselves visually in a variety of formats, from one on one study to small workshop groups.



Painting with light is a combination of lively, rhythmic movements made with an array of simple, safe battery-powered lights in a studio that allows participants to make beautiful patterned digital photographs, literally out of thin air!

Guided by School of Light founder, Andrew Hall, an internationally renowned innovator in this field, students will be introduced to the almost limitless possibilities and unique beauty possible using simple LEDs and flashlights.

This class is a super fun and very active way to combine dance-like movement and long exposure to capture trails of light which look like the strokes of a paintbrush and are different every time. At the end of the course each participant will be able to make large format digital prints of their favorite photographs to take away.

All materials, and light painting tools will be supplied. If students have their own digital SLR, they are encouraged to bring it to shoot with. If not, a professional DSLR will be supplied and full instruction on its use given.
