Welcome
The School of Light works with groups and organizations in creative and interactive ways, incorporating exciting new photography approaches that foster relationships, build team spirit and differentiate brands.
Event:
Half Magic
Instant Magic
The School of Light was chosen by HBO’s Euphoria make up artist Donni Davy to bring an analog edge to the launch of her amazing new make up brand Half Magic. We set up to shoot the over 200 participants inside LA's iconic Moonlight Rollerway, in a specially built set to echo the floral dream sequence in Season 2, Episode 4.
“It's so cool to have a picture shot and framed in 5 minutes!”
Euphoria has become justly famous for its innovative cinematography, particularly using specially produced Kodak film, and we decided to honor this analogue approach by shooting the participants on instant film with a large format 4x5" camera.
Drawing on our deep experience with film, Polaroid and lighting we were able to provide an instant "wow" moment to a large audience of knowledgeable industry leaders, influencers and artists, who all took home a beautiful framed memento of an enchanted evening.

Lancôme
Pop of Black and White: LA’s best darkroom just got mobile
The School of Light was commissioned by global cosmetics brand Lancome to be part of a spectacular 'LA Takeover' to launch one of its new products L'Absolu Lacquer.
The event reminded an internationally gathered group of opinion shapers that film lives on!
The day began at The 60 Hotel, in Beverly Hills, where SoL founder Andrew Hall photographed over 30 influencers and major players in the world of cosmetics on film, before hotfooting it to a Pop Up Darkroom in south LA to process the shots inside a beautifully converted shipping container.
Guests had the opportunity to get involved in the printing process as The School of Light team produced black and white prints of their portraits for them to take away as a handcrafted souvenir of the event.
Project:
Little Fires Everywhere
Fanning the Flames
The School of Light was proud to be involved in the Hulu series 'Little Fires Everywhere'. To ensure maximum authenticity, the producers commissioned SoL courses director Andrew Hall to instruct lead actor Kerry Washington and coach her in the fine art of film photography for her role as Mia Warren, and consult on the construction of her darkroom.

Red Bull
Lighting the Way: New Employee Welcome Event.
The School of Light was approached by Red Bull USA to create a fast-paced interactive light painting event to welcome 25 new employees to their national headquarters in Santa Monica CA.
“Unlike anything
else out there!”
Mariah Geyen, Red Bull
Team members were able to paint jaw-dropping patterns to a specially mixed soundtrack and see their results immediately projected 20 feet across, to the encouragement and applause of their colleagues in the audience.
The evening was capped by a series of exceptional creations, with the participants first planning and making beautiful patterns in small teams, ending with a spectacular light painting by the whole group.
Leaving exhilarated, everybody took with them tailor-made packs with specially commissioned ‘Lighting the Way’ t-shirts and some simple light painting tools to continue the fun.
