Fine Art Photography / August

$575.00

Nowadays, what we call ‘Alternative Processes’ were once at the cutting edge of photography as an art form. Here at the School of Light we’re giving today’s analog enthusiasts a chance to create their own fine art photography using the same methods as those Victorian pioneers.

During this 6-week course, students will be able to experiment with the following darkroom methods:

Platinum-Palladium Printing - Recognized by many as the ‘king of darkroom processes’ for its ability to render black and white negatives in a beautifully extended new range of tones not possible with any other printing method.

Cyanotypes - Originally conceived as a means of recording documents, but capable of wonderful subtlety and a range of striking blue tones that enhance portraits and still life work.

Salt Printing - A versatile technique of making prints onto paper, that is almost as old as photography itself, being experimented with by such early practitioners as William Fox-Talbot. Combined with gold toning, rich warm depths of brown and sepia are possible.

Students are required to bring their own black and white negatives and a selection of watercolor type paper. All chemicals and other materials necessary will be provided.
